SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) A.J. West had 17 points and 15 rebounds, Tyron Criswell rebounded his own missed free throw with two seconds left and Nevada held on to defeat San Jose State 60-57 on Saturday.

The Wolf Pack (7-15, 3-7 Mountain West) ended a seven-game losing streak while the Spartans (2-21, 0-11) lost their 13th straight.

Both teams had numerous chances in the final two minutes after Darryl Gaynor II made a layup to pull San Jose within 54-53.

West responded with a layup at 1:34 but in the final 1:05 Nevada made just 2 of 8 free throws.

After Gaynor's bucket the Spartans missed three shots, two free throws and had a turnover. Gaynor scored with four seconds left to make it 59-57 before Criswell was fouled. He made the first free throw and then snagged the rebound that sealed the game.

Gaynor led San Jose with 25 points.


Men's Basketball Postgame Notes

Nevada improved to 7-15 overall and 3-7 in Mountain West play after defeating San Jose State (2-21, 0-11 MW) 60-57 today.

The win snapped a seven-game losing skid for the Wolf Pack while SJSU has now lost 13 in a row.

Nevada plays at Utah State (13-10, 6-5 MW) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. PT. The game will air on ROOT Sports.

Junior forward AJ West posted his 10th double-double of the season, seventh in 10 MW games and 12th of his career finishing with 17 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. The 17 points is one short of tying his career high of 18 set versus Adam State earlier this season. The 15 rebounds is tied for the high in a MW game this season and is the fourth time West has reached the mark in a conference game.

For the 15th time in 22 games West has posted a game-high in rebounds. It is his 11th double figure rebounding game of the season and 17th time he led the Pack in rebounds this season.

West has scored in double figures in the last 12 games and a team-high17 times on the season. Seven times he has led the team in scoring which is tied with D.J. Fenner for tops on the team.

Eric Cooper, Jr. scored 12 points and Tyron Criswell added 10 as three Pack players scored in double figures.

Cooper and Criswell have each started the last five games and both have scored in double figures in four-of-five starts.

Junior forward Lucas Stivrins made his third consecutive start and finished with a career-high 10 rebounds.

For the first time this season Nevada did not make a 3-pointer. The Pack missed all nine 3-point attempts.

Senior Ronnie Stevens. Jr. was perfect at the line making all six free throw attempts. The six made free throws is a career high.

Nevada outrebounded the Spartans 51-33. It is the 14th time the Pack won the rebounding battle and eighth time by double figures.

Head coach David Carter is now 96-90 in his sixth season at Nevada and 16-28 in his third season of MW play.
