Join our celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day every February at Lawlor Events Center on the campus of the University of Nevada!

Nevada Athletics celebrates the 39th anniversary of National Girls and Women in Sports Day Feb. 5, a national celebration inspiring girls and women to pursue athletic activities.

To commemorate the 39th anniversary, Nevada will highlight the transformational power of girls' participation in sports, bringing attention to the achievements of female athletes and overcoming the obstacles that face girls and women in sports. These celebrations include a free clinic with Nevada women's soccer, women's tennis and women's volleyball on Feb. 5 at 5:45 p.m. at Lawlor Events Center.

Following the clinic, fans are invited to cheer on Nevada women's basketball when it takes on Boise State at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 5. Tickets to the women's basketball game start at just $5 for youth and $7 for adults online. Kids eighth grade and under wearing their sports jerseys can purchase a discounted ticket for the game here.

Nevada will also host a NGWSD panel with women in the department for female student-athletes regarding their journeys throughout sports.

Celebrating its 39th year in 2025, National Girls and Women in Sports Day acknowledges the accomplishments of female athletes, the positive influence of sports participation and the continuing struggle for equality for women in sports. It is celebrated annually in all 50 states with events, awards ceremonies and other activities. Nevada and its partners aim to celebrate the power and potential of girls and women by empowering them to participate in sports and embrace physical activity.

"On National Girls & Women in Sports Day, I'm grateful for those who have paved the way, ensuring women have the opportunity to excel in college sports. Competing as a Division I Athlete offers an unparalleled experience—one that simply cannot be replicated," Nevada Associate Athletics Director for Administration/Senior Woman Administrator Casey Stangel said. "It challenges young people to manage their time, develop resilience, celebrate victory, and learn from failure. To have the opportunity to work in athletics as an administrator is an extraordinary gift. I understood then, as I do now, the honor in representing your university through athletics—a privilege that shapes character and instills lifelong pride."

NGWSD History
2025's celebration marks the 39th anniversary of NGWSD, a day observed by all 50 states, with the goal of putting girls and women in sports in a national spotlight.

NGWSD is powered by the Women's Sports Foundation, a nonprofit charity established in 1974 with an on-going mission to empower female athletes of all ages to reach their potential in sports and life.

Since its formation, NGWSD has recognized the achievements of all female athletes, the positive benefits of female inclusion in sports, and the progress of an on-going journey toward equal representation in sports since Title IX was enacted in 1972.
