Nevada drops first Mountain West game of season to Colorado State

Box Score
RENO, Nev. - Nevada Women's Basketball opened Mountain West play Wednesday night, falling to Colorado State, 61-48.

The Pack hung with the Rams through the first half, only trailing by five at the break, 25-20. Nearly halfway through the second quarter, Nevada tied it up at 15 off of a three-pointer by Amelia Raidaveta, and took its first lead when Ahrray Young knocked down one of her own to make it 18-17.

Nevada held Colorado State to just 34.4 percent shooting and a 1-for-8 showing from three in the first half. But the Pack struggled to take advantage, going scoreless for over five minutes after Young's go-ahead 3-pointer. The drought allowed the Rams to go on an 8-0 run which ended only with Young's layup with a second remaining in the half.

While the Pack's shooting improved at 47.8 percent in the second half and it committed just three turnovers, the Rams had the faster start and used four quick 3-pointers to create separation. Colorado State went 8-for-12 from the field in the third quarter, outscoring Nevada, 22-13, to open up a 14-point lead.

Rebounds and second chance points by Colorado State (10-2, 1-0 MW) also hurt Nevada as the Rams had 36 boards and 16 points on second chances.

The Pack dominated in bench points with 25, led by Gabby Ramos with 11 thanks to 3-for-4 shooting from beyond the arc.

Young led Nevada with 13 points and shot 50 percent from the field. Amelia Raidaveta had a perfect night, dropping a season high eight points going 2-for-2 from the field and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe.

Nevada (4-7, 0-1 MW) closes the opening week of conference play at Air Force Saturday at 12 p.m. PT.
