Lynch, Wells finish top 10 at Mt. Rose

RENO, Nev. - Collegiate skiing returned to Northern Nevada for the first time since 2011 as Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe hosted the first of four days of action Saturday. Nevada showed it could run on home turf as Erica Lynch finished fifth in the women's slalom and Peyton Wells came in 10th on the men's side.

Saturday featured the RMISA Alpine qualifier in the slalom. Lynch was seventh to pace the Nevada women after the first run, then posted the third-fastest second run of the field to climb two spots and claim yet another top-five finish this season with a combined time of 1:38.18.

Charlotte Clément and Zali Sutton also finished in the top 15 on the women's side. Clément was just a hundredth of a second behind Lynch on the second run, the fourth-fastest time in the field that run moving her up seven spots for a 12th-place finish at 1:41.06. Sutton had the seventh-fastest second run, and took 14th with a combined time of 1:41.56.

On the men's side, Wells held 13th after the first run and remained there following his second, coming in with a combined time of 1:37.59. Tommaso Speri (1:38.92) and Isaac Mozen (1:39.19) took 16th and 18th, respectively, to round out Wolf Pack top-20 finishes.

Pietro Bisello turned in the fourth-fastest time in the opening run at 45.84 but did not finish his second run, denying him a potential top-five finish.

Action continues Sunday at 9 a.m. with the slalom races of the Nevada Invitational, before shifting to giant slalom for Monday and Tuesday. Monday's race will be another RMISA alpine qualifier while Tuesday's giant slalom concludes the Nevada Invitational.
