LOGAN, Utah — Nevada (20-10, 3-1 MW) opened its Mountain West road slate with a 13–6 win over Utah State (13-16, 2-2) MW on Friday afternoon at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field.
Nevada wasted no time setting the tone with three runs in the opening frame.
Madison Clark led off with an infield single and later stole second, setting up Katelyn Wetteland's two‑run homer to center.
Haylee Engelbrecht followed with a hit driving in another run to make it 3–0.
The Pack kept the pressure on in the second, adding three more behind a bunt single from
Bailie Clark and a two‑run single from
Hannah Di Genova. Wetteland later scored on a wild pitch, stretching the lead to 6–0. Nevada's momentum continued in the third with a pair of RBIs from
Madison Clark.
Nevada's biggest inning came in the fourth, when Engelbrecht and
Lexi O'Gorman delivered RBI singles before two Utah State errors allowed two more runs to cross, pushing the lead to 12–0. The Aggies answered with a six‑run surge in the bottom of the inning.
Wetteland doubled to open the fifth and later scored on O'Gorman's RBI single, giving Nevada its final run of the day.
Tess Bumiller worked three scoreless innings with just two hits allowed to open the game. After the six-run Aggie fourth,
Talia Tretton came on in the fifth and was dominant in relief, throwing three shutout innings with one hit allowed and no walks to get the win and improve to 7-3.
Nevada continues play at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field against Utah State tomorrow at 11 a.m. PT.
