LOS ANGELES -Â All eight of No. 18 USC's runs came over the first three innings, then it was six scoreless for both teams the rest of the way as Nevada fell to the Trojans, 8-0, Thursday night at Dedeaux Field.
USC (39-12) hit four homers off Wolf Pack starter
Aidan Brainard, with Adrian Lopez's solo shot in the first opening the scoring. Jack Baseer added a two-run shot then Andrew Lamb added the third homer of the frame as the Trojans got out to a quick 4-0 lead.
Walter Urbon closed the scoring for the game with a two-run homer in USC's three-run third.
Nevada (23-22) wasn't short for opportunities, however, despite being shutout for the first time this season. The Wolf Pack stranded 11 baserunners, while
Jackson Waller did his part to get on base going 3-for-4 with two doubles.
The Pack's bullpen was a bright spot, with
Jordan Giacomini and
Eddie Tierney combining to strike out eight and hold the Trojans to just one hit over the final five frames. Brainard fell to 5-3 with the loss but did strike out six Trojans.
Overall, the teams' pitching staffs combined to strike out 27 batters, 10 of those from Trojan starter Mason Edwards who improved to 8-0 going six scoreless innings and giving up just four hits.
The teams return to action Friday at 7 p.m.
