RENO, Nev. - Mikey Cruz Jr. stayed red-hot at the plate Thursday, leading a five-homer game for Nevada with two long balls and seven RBIs in the 18-7, seven-inning win over Simpson University at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.

Cruz capped his day with the walk-off, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh. That added to his grand slam in the second, with his seven RBIs marking his second game this season with at least six.

Noah Blythe and Sean Yamaguchi hit homers in Nevada's four-run sixth, and Jacob Doyle had a two-run shot, his team-leading ninth of the season, in the third.

Nevada (17-10) jumped on the RedHawks early, taking advantage of pitching wildness to put up five runs in the first. Simpson starter Brendan Moore walked four, hit one, and gave up a bases-clearing double to Jackson Waller as the Pack took control early. It was Moore's only inning of work and he fell to 1-4 with the loss.

But the RedHawks (19-21) did bring some offense early. Eric Mora and JJ Torrente had RBI singles in the top of the second as Simpson got to within 5-3 against Wolf Pack starter Dominic Desch.

Cruz provided all four Nevada runs in the bottom half with his grand slam, making it 9-3 and creating the cushion the Wolf Pack needed.

Luke Schat picked up his first win, working scoreless fourth and fifth innings while striking out two.

Blythe and Jack Metcho each had two hits for Nevada, while Junhyuk Kwon and Rominic Quiban scored three times apiece.

Nevada returns to action Monday at Sacramento State for a 6 p.m. first pitch before beginning a four-game homestand Tuesday, April 7 at 6:05 p.m. against UC Davis.
